There are two proposed College rule
changes we will vote on this year:
VOTE 1
(RS) Roster Size
Our current roster format is two players each at
QB, RB, WR, Opt, K and DEF for a total of 12 players. That has been the
roster format for every college season except 2021 and 2022. In those two
seasons we added a third optional player due to the ongoing Covid pandemic
and the uncertainty of player availability each week.
Last year we
saw the return of at least two bye weeks for all college teams. As
previously discussed, the impact of the multiple bye weeks was handled by
owners in various ways. Some teams dropped players that did not want to in
order to field a complete lineup in a given week.
There has been a
suggestion to go back to having 3 Optional Players. This would give owners
more flexibility throughout the season to manage the bye weeks. The feeling
is that with ten fantasy teams and a player pool from 43 schools, ten
additional rostered players would not significantly impact the
availability of free agents.
Some owners did manage their roster last
year at the draft and during the season with bye weeks in mind, while some
did not. Bye week roster management has long been something an owner can
create a competitive advantage, or a disadvantage if not properly monitored.
Do we want to make things easier or reward good fantasy team management done
by an owner?
The proposed change is as
follows:
Expand
rosters by adding a 3rd Optional Player for a total of 13 players.
RULE VOTE 1
A) Keep the current rule, 2 optional players and
12 players total.
B) Change rule, 3 optional players and 13 players total.
VOTE 2 (FT) Free Agent Add/Drop Transactions- QB,
K, and DEF
Since the college league started, our league has always
had a limit of 3 free agent add/drop transactions at QB, K and DEF. The rule
is mainly designed to limit teams' ability to acquire available free agents
at those positions based highly on who has the best matchup of the week. In
addition, it limits teams' ability to add best matchup free agents as a way
of managing bye weeks.
The number of regular season fantasy weeks has
changed over the years. In 1997-2001 there were 8 regular season fantasy
weeks. In 2002-2014 we had 9. in 2015-2023 we had 10. Last year we extended
to the current 11 week format.
Despite that growth in regular season
weeks, we have remained at a limit of 3 free agent QB, K and DEF
transactions. Is that the proper number?
Last year 11 times a team
used all 3 free agent moves allowed at a position during the first season of
11 regular season weeks. How does that compare to previous seasons? Here is
a break down of recent years: 2023-5 2022-7 2021-5 2019-2
2018-2 2017-4 2016-3 2015-2
Obviously it was a significant
increase over previous seasons. Being it was the first year with 11 weeks,
hard to say if that will be the norm. Giving teams an additional free agent
move would seem to be inline with a regular season schedule that has gone
from 8 to 11 weeks.
There would still be a limit on free agent moves,
thus limiting an owner from simply playing weekly matchups or as an ongoing
bye week management resource. Do we want to give more flexibility to manage
your team given the growth in the number of fantasy weeks, or reward the
owner that uses their 3 moves wisely?
The
proposed change is as follows:
Increase free agent add/drop transactions from 3
to 4.
RULE VOTE 2
A) Keep the current rule, limit of 3 free agent
add/drop transactions at QB, K and DEF.
B) Change rule, limit of 4 free agent add/drop
transactions at QB, K and DEF.
