THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR                             Edition 4.1

A new season is upon us, and it looks to be the most explosive to date. Week one should go down as one of the most productive in College Fantasy history. Eight teams exceeded the century mark, and one unlucky coach lost while scoring an incredible 134 points!!!! Another failed to win while scoring 114, and to make matters worse…114 was not good enough to earn a top six bonus!!! One has to feel for those Coaches…that is flat out cold!  Here is a recap of the incredible scoring week that inaugurated the 2007 season.

Game Cocks @ Venom ; 116 – 114 Venom

The Cocks came into the season with the number one pick in the draft, and to no ones surprise took Colt Brennan from Hawaii. Brennan is a fantasy monster that scored in excess of 500 fantasy points last year. He should average fifty points a game, and in week one he didn’t disappoint. He threw four touchdowns before the first quarter was half way through. The Gamers got solid games from the rest of their squad in route to scoring an impressive 114. Unfortunately, Hackett's squad went up against a hot team in the Venom. Johnson and Torain scored three TD’S each to secure the win and combat Brennan's firepower. It also helped that The Venom had one of his targets, Rivers who caught a TD pass.  When the Dogs were called off as Brennan sat early, the Venom squeaked out the win. The Cocks failed to get a bonus, and have zero points to show for an extremely good game; This has never happened!  114 and no bonus? The Cocks will win some games this year, you can count on it.

Cossacks @ Contributors;  117 – 84 Sacks

Coach Maze suffered through an agonizing campaign in 2006, but his squad is poised to go far in 2007. To demonstrate how extremely deep the talent is this year, stud Slaton fell into the Sacks lap with the sixth pick. Slaton ripped off forty points in a performance that should be repeated often.  With the steady play of the rest of the squad, he cruised to victory with a solid 117 points and a top six finish. The Contributors had, in a normal week, a solid outing with 84 points. In this crazy week it was only better then two other teams. Of note, In the first two games recapped this week we already have scores of 117,116, and 114…wow!

Predators @ Browns; 143 - 95 Predators

The Predators devour the Browns with an off the chart 143 points! This score is in rare air in any season, this week it was second best! Coach Merv got a great performance from the Lucky Husker and Tebow demonstrated the hype might be real! The Predators scored from top to bottom as Hill, Woods, and Sweed combined for 48 points. The Browns scored a solid 95 points, but came up empty on this day. Hart responded with an excellent game as he single handedly tried to save the Wolverines from an embarrassing loss. His valiant effort was not enough as both the Wolverines and Browns went down to defeat. At least the Browns can say they lost to a good team! Michigan may never recover, and their Coach’s fate may be sealed.

Spartans @ Lightning; 66 – 64  The 300

The combined score of this contest did not equal the individual scores of four teams this week. The Spartans were lucky in that they got the perfect match-up as they would have lost to the remaining 10 teams this week! Half of their points were scored by Crabtree on Labor Day, and they got just enough to eek out a victory. Sparta does have a team capable of scoring, we will see if they can put it together in week two. The Lightning had little this week, but Douglas and Smith were bright spots. DeSean Jackson’s four points were a let down. He was taken in the first round, and was expected to perform. It’s a shame no points were awarded for his inspired punt return against Tennessee. The Lightning are capable of putting up some points and they are looking ahead to next week.

DragonFarts @ Elephants ; 148 –106 DFarts

The Farts ignited for an incredible 148 points!!  This may be the score to beat this year. D Murray debuted with five TD’S taking advantage of his time in the spotlight. This performance may be hard to duplicate, but he sure made a splash in the world of fantasy football.  Harrell produced as expected, throwing up 39 in  workmanlike manner. He will be a great anchor that will make the Farts hard to beat. The Elephants hit a buzz saw this week, but they performed well and should be a force this year. Brohm looks solid, and McFadden will throw up points going forward. If you are going to lose, better to be blown out…then suffer the fate of the contest between….

Shamrox @ Stallions ; 135 –134 Rox

269 combined points and it’s decided by one??? That is stone cold Brutha!!!! How can you lose with 134 points? The Stallions were good enough to beat eight other teams, but got the match-up from hell. Amendola nearly pulled out the win on Labor Day, but came up a point short. The Horses will bounce back if they can recover from the devastating defeat. The Rox were sweating on Labor day as Amendola broke off a 49 yarder. Watching a lead almost slip away after scoring 135 has to be harder then almost galloping to Victory. QB White had a great game, and Bernard looks to be a workhorse in his own right this year. In the end, someone had to win this great game, it’s a shame someone had to lose.

What a week Gentlemen!!! Its going to be an interesting year with plenty of fireworks. There are some Great teams!! Every fantasy point will count! One single catch or yard can mean victory or defeat
